The 2025 Leagues Cup has come down from 36 teams to eight, with four representatives from Major League Soccer and four from Liga MX remaining. In the next two weeks here in the knockout stage, a new champion will be crowned, since the Columbus Crew have already exited the competition earlier than they should. Major League Soccer’s remaining clubs include the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, Orlando City, and 2023 champions Inter Miami. For Liga MX, it’s Tigres UANL, Pachuca, Toluca, and Puebla.
Only four teams will advance to the semi-finals this week, which raises the question of whether we’ll finally see a Liga MX club clinch a berth in the final after failing to do so in the last two editions of this tournament.

Inter Miami vs Tigres UANL
The meeting between Inter Miami and Tigres UANL should be this year’s final because they’ve been two of the best remaining teams in the competition on paper. Inter Miami advanced by winning 2-1 against Atlas, beating Necaxa in the penalty shootout, and securing a 3-1 result against Pumas UNAM in the group stage. On the other hand, Tigres UANL won 4-1 against Houston Dynamo and 2-1 against San Diego FC before dropping their final group stage match against LAFC (2-1).
After acing the group stage with flying colours, Inter Miami were sent back to Earth with a humiliating 4-1 league loss against Orlando City. However, it’s worth noting that the Herons played without their talisman, Lionel Messi, due to fitness concerns.
Taking the week off has done wonders for Messi, as the 38-year-old forward made a massive impact during his return against LA Galaxy last Sunday. In the 3-1 win against the reigning Major League Soccer champions, Messi recorded a goal and an assist to help the Herons return to winning ways.
Tigres UANL won 7-0 against Puebla and lost 3-1 to Club America in their last two games. The Guido Pizarro-coached side recently added Angel Correa to their ranks, making them a dangerous opponent against Inter Miami.

Toluca vs Orlando City
The Leagues Cup 2025 odds favour Toluca to advance to the semi-finals at the expense of Orlando City because they’ve built momentum heading into this Wednesday night. Diablos Rojos are undefeated in their last five matches across all competitions, following their 4-3 league loss against Tigres UANL last July.
Antonio Mohamed’s side won the Clausura last May and could add another piece of silverware to their trophy case. Toluca beat Columbus Crew via penalties and won 2-1 against Montreal and New York City during the group stage. They also secured a 2-0 result over Juarez and a 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM in Liga MX recently. Paulinho and Alexis Vega are the main threats for the Mexican side.
Orlando City are also on a four-game unbeaten run across all competitions. After a narrow group stage loss against Pumas UNAM, the Lions won 3-1 against Atlas and 5-1 against Necaxa before beating Inter Miami and Sporting KC 4-1 and 3-1 in Major League Soccer.

Seattle Sounders vs Puebla
Puebla raised eyebrows by being one of the four Liga MX teams left, but they earned their spot. They defeated New York City and Montreal and are looking to get past a Major League Soccer giant into the semi-finals.
The Seattle Sounders are the only team entering the knockouts having won all three of their group stage matches with ease. Since their return from the Club World Cup, Brian Schmetzer’s side has been unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 matches across all competitions, scoring a whopping 29 goals in the process.

LA Galaxy vs Pachuca
Pachuca enter the quarter-finals as the favourites to beat LA Galaxy. They’re in first place in the Apertura standings, and they defeated San Diego FC and Houston Dynamo during the group stage. Before all of this, Jaime Lozano’s side also competed in the Club World Cup.
On the other hand, the LA Galaxy made Major League Soccer history in 2025 by having the worst return of a defending champion in the league’s 30-year run. With only 16 points in the first 26 matches, Greg Vanney’s side is at the bottom of the Western Conference, and the Leagues Cup is all they have left to play for.
