Bayern Munich vs SC Freiburg
Bayern Munich suffered a minor setback in their last Bundesliga game, as they were held to a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin before the November international break. However, they still lead the German top-flight standings with 28 points, at least six points ahead of the rest of the chasing pack.
Now that domestic football action is back, Vincent Kompany’s men will turn their focus to their upcoming home game against SC Freiburg at the Allianz Arena this Saturday, and almost every other team will be watching this contest with great interest.
SC Freiburg are nine notches below Bayern Munich in the table. Julian Schuster’s side only has 13 points in the first 10 matchdays, although they’re undefeated in their last two (W1, D1). The Black Forest are, once again, fighting for a European football spot for next season.

Talking Points
Gnabry is playing for his next Bayern Munich deal
Several Bayern Munich stars have had a productive November international break. Harry Kane – the frontrunner for the Bundesliga Golden Boot race with 13 goals – bagged a brace in England’s 2-0 qualifying win over Albania. Serge Gnabry also scored during Germany’s 6-0 rout of Slovakia, with teammates Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Leon Goretzka, and Aleksandar Pavlovic featured.

Gnabry’s goal should give him some confidence ahead of the SC Freiburg match. The 30-year-old winger, who scored his last Bundesliga goal against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month, is in his contract year, so he is playing for his next payday. So far, things are going according to plan, as he has already scored four league goals and three assists.
With his strong start, Bayern Munich are keen on giving Gnabry a contract extension. According to reports, the new deal is for at least 1-2 years, but with a reduced salary. On the other hand, rival clubs from Europe are monitoring his situation.
While Gnabry’s extension talks are looming, there’s good news for the Bavarian giants, as Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito are back in full training recently. The return of these two defenders will certainly help Bayern Munich’s cause, although we don’t expect them to be on the pitch this Saturday.
SC Freiburg have turned to an unconventional weapon
SC Freiburg have been largely successful this season. The Black Forest are in the European football race in the Bundesliga, and are a Top 2 squad in the Europa League standings, with three wins and one draw in their opening four games.
Julian Schuster’s men have turned to set-pieces as one of their main weapons this season. As things stand, SC Freiburg are the only German top-flight team to have scored at least half of its goals from set-pieces, going for 7-for-13 (three corners, three penalties, one free-kick) in their attempts thus far.
Vincenzo Grifo has been the team’s main outlet, registering three league goals and one assist. Maximillian Eggestein, Derry Scherhant, Igor Matanovic, Lukas Kubler, Junior Adamu, and Yuito Suzuki have also found the back of the net this year.
History
Bayern Munich completed a league double over SC Freiburg last season. In their last Bundesliga game at the Europa-Park Stadion in January, Harry Kane and Kim Min-Jae scored for Bayern Munich before Matthias Ginter scored a consolation goal to prevent a shutout loss for SC Freiburg, who couldn’t find the equaliser.
The Bavarian giants saw their 16-match winning start across all competitions to the 2025-26 season come to an end at Union Berlin last time out. Vincent Kompany was two league wins short of leapfrogging Pep Guardiola’s record of 10 consecutive victories, which was set in 2015-16.
On the other hand, the Black Forest are undefeated in their last four games across all competitions, with one win each in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Europa League.
