Bundesliga: Red-Hot Bayern Already Starting to Pull Clear

So, we all know everyone is playing for second place in the Bundesliga this term.

These SBOTOP pages have long documented why Bayern Munich are overwhelming favourites.

Put it this way, you don’t need to study our Bundesliga 2025 betting odds to take our word for it.

But just in case you are wondering, it’s weekends like this which further the Bavarians’ cause.

Two of the sides who have mustered a challenge on the odd occasion over the last decade met and couldn’t be separated – their 1-1 draw allowing Bayern to extend their lead at the top.

Borussia Dortmund, 4-1 winners over Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League in midweek, found themselves on the back foot after seven minutes when Christoph Baumgartner tapped in from Assan Ouédraogo’s header to put the visitors in front. The hosts hit back when Yan Couto drilled home from inside the box to level after 23 minutes and both sides had plenty more chances after the break.

Yet 1-1 was how it stayed and that was a result which must have pleased Bayern who demonstrated all their firepower with a convincing win at Eintracht Frankfurt.

It was a night in which Harry Kane and Luis Díaz again shone.

The England captain rifled in his 11th league goal in the 27th minute and became the first Bundesliga player to reach that mark after six matches. He already has 18 goals in 10 matches across all competitions this season.

However, Díaz was the star of the show and it took him just 15 seconds to find the breakthrough as the Colombian international stole in at the far post to convert Serge Gnabry’s cross for the fastest Bundesliga goal of the season.

The Bayern defence stood firm against a Frankfurt side who had scored 17 goals in their first five league games before Diaz sealed a 10th consecutive win this term for the Bavarians with his second of the game.

Bayern, who are my tip to win the Champions League this term, have now also set a Bundesliga scoring record with 25 goals from the first six league games, and have a four-point lead over Dortmund.

Pre-season, I said only one team could challenge Bayern’s superiority but that went out the window the minute Bayer Leverkusen recklessly decided to part company with Erik Ten Hag just three games into his tenure.

No wonder the Dutchman was unhappy if club chiefs expected instant results after selling most of their best players this summer.

In recent weeks, they have made a slight improvement after their self-inflicted chaos and they secured back-to-back three points on Saturday with a comfortable home victory over Union Berlin.

It was the young duo of young duo of Ernest Poku and Christian Kofane who scored the goals either side of the break to seal the points and make it seven games unbeaten in all competitions

The second goal from Kofane, following a Berlin error, continued the meteoric rise of the 19 year-old.

Kofane was playing in Cameroon with AS Nylon this time a year ago, but scored his first Champions League goal on Wednesday and has now opened his Bundesliga account.

Their only downbeat note of the weekend saw captain Alejandro Grimaldo stretchered off after suffering a head injury following a collision.

Despite Leverkusen’s victory, it is Stuttgart who remain above the 2024 German champions in fourth place after they had more Bundesliga 2025 highlights to shout about, courtesy of Bilal El Khannouss’s strike.

That proved the difference against struggling Heidenheim and was fitting as the Moroccan midfielder was the best player on the park.

One team who were level on points with bottom place Heidenheim going into the weekend were Augsburg but they sealed a much-needed win, 3-1 at home to Wolfsburg.

Mert Kömür starred as the hosts ended a four-match losing streak and claimed their first home win of the season.

After a successful season opener against Freiburg, Sandro Wagner’s men had struggled to find form on home soil, where they were winless in six matches stretching back to last season.

Wolfsburg arrived in no better shape, having collected just two points from their previous four matches, though the visitors would have been concerned by their record against Augsburg – they hadn’t beaten the Bavarians in their last seven Bundesliga encounters.

That record now stands at eight.

The home side could not have wished for a better start as, just three minutes in, Kömür delivered a dangerous cross from a short corner routine that found its way to Noahkai Banks, who fired home emphatically at the far post for his first professional goal.

Augsburg extended their advantage in the 63rd minute when Fabian Rieder’s cutback found Robin Fellhauer and he finished with precision.

Wolfsburg responded almost immediately as Adam Daghim rifled home from a Mohamed Amoura pass to reduce the deficit, but despite increased pressure and several promising opportunities, Augsburg’s defence held firm to secure a vital three points. Job done and Augsburg are up to 14th.
