La Liga: The Yellow Submarine is Up and Running

Villarreal vs Getafe

Villarreal are suddenly in the Top 3, as they are one of the most in-form teams in La Liga today. With five wins on the bounce, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s men have taken the third seed with 32 points, which is only five points adrift of frontrunners Barcelona and one point behind second-seeded Real Madrid.

After their Copa del Rey second-round match against Antoniano later, the Yellow Submarine will return home this Saturday afternoon to host Getafe at the Estadio de la Ceramica, and a win would help consolidate their spot in the Top 3.

Getafe are four notches below Villarreal in the Spanish top-flight table, with 20 points, but a European football place is within their grasp. Jose Bordalas’ men are only four points behind fifth-seeded Real Betis and sixth-seeded Espanyol.

Geta Azulones have lost back-to-back against Atletico Madrid and Mallorca, but they’ve bounced back with recent victories over Elche and Navalcarnero in the Copa del Rey second round.

Talking Points

Moleiro is a gem for Villarreal

La Liga: Villarreal have a knack for discovering young talent, and Alberto Moleiro is their newest standout
Villarreal forward Alberto Moleiro celebrates after scoring against Real Sociedad in La Liga at Anoeta Stadium

Villarreal have a knack for discovering young talent, and they have a new one in Alberto Moleiro, who has been named La Liga EA Sports Best U-23 Player for November. The 22-year-old, who joined from Las Palmas last summer, earned the award, beating Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Real Betis’ Valentin Gomez, and Elche’s Alvaro Rodriguez.

Last month, Moleiro had a goal and an assist against Rayo Vallecano (4-0), a goal against Espanyol (2-0), and a brace against Real Sociedad (3-2). As of this writing, he leads the Yellow Submarine in scoring with six league goals and two assists.

Villarreal are on a winning run, having scored more. Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side boasts the joint-second-best offence in Spain with 29 goals, level with Real Madrid. Besides Moleiro, Tajon Buchanan, Gerard Moreno, Santi Comesana, Nicolas Pepe, Pape Gueye, Tani Oluwaseyi, Georges Mikautadze, and Ayoze Perez have also scored at least two goals thus far.

The Yellow Submarine have also been underrated on the defencive side of the pitch, having conceded only 13 goals. Centre-backs Rafa Marin and Juan Foyth will hold down the backline alongside Santiago Mourino and Alfonso Pedraza to cover goalkeeper Luiz Junior.

Getafe need more goals

On the other hand, Getafe need to score more goals if they have plans to make a run at European football this season. Geta Azulones currently have one of the worst offences in Spain, scoring only 13 goals while conceding 15 on the other end.

Borja Mayoral and Adrian Liso have accounted for seven goals so far, while Mauro Arambarri and Mario Martin have two goals apiece. Luis Milla is the team’s top playmaker by a mile with six assists. Arambarri scored the matchwinner against Elche last Saturday.

On the front office side of things, Geta Azulones must give head coach Jose Bordalas a new contract extension, as they owe much of their success to him. Bordalas, who is out of contract in 2026, continues to be a modicum of consistency.

History

Villarreal are undefeated in their last 13 games against Getafe (W8, D5), though they failed to complete a league double over them last term.

Getafe held Villarreal to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio de la Ceramica in October 2024, as Mauro Arambarri scored a late penalty equaliser to cancel out Santi Comesana’s first-half score. In March 2025, Villarreal bounced back with a 2-1 win at Estadio Coliseum, as Ayoze Perez and Thierno Barry scored for the Yellow Submarine, and Carles Perez scored for Geta Azulones.

Last season, Villarreal finished fifth in the Spanish top-flight standings to take the final Champions League berth, while Getafe finished 13th after a poor run of results. Getafe’s highest La Liga finish was fifth in 2018-19.

Betting Tip

The La Liga 2025 odds favour the Yellow Submarine to hum along this weekend. Villarreal are priced to win at 1.65, while Getafe are 4.96 underdogs, and a draw is at 3.42 in the 1X2 market. While going for a draw is tempting, given their recent encounters, we won’t be surprised if Marcelino Garcia Toral’s men see this through.

Either way, we feel that there should be enough goals and La Liga 2025 highlights to go by in this contest. Besides our recommended bet, SBOTOP bettors may also consider adding Over 2.00 at 1.63, Over at 2.25 at 1.93, and Over 2.50 at 2.16 to the parlay. Furthermore, a Correct Score of 2-1 in favour of Villarreal – the result of their last league encounter – could yield a robust payday of 8.20 your bet.
